Ollantaytambo.-

Located approximately 80 km from the city of Cusco, at 7700 meters above sea level. As in the rest of archaeological sites, the name firstborn of this is a mystery, but chroniclers show that Ollantaytambo comes from an Aymara word "Ullantawi" which means place where one looks below, and "tambo" which in Quechua means resting place, it would have been subsequently incorporated.

For many people of the andes the name Ollantaytambo comes from "Ollanta" which is the name of an Inca captain, whose history was saved with the passing of time as an oral tradition, and was also written as a drama by Antonio Valdez during the 18th century.

The archaeological group of Ollantaytambo in the time of the Inca state was an administrative, religious military and agricultural center. According to chronicles of the time, the arrival of the spanish, Ollantaytambo has not yet been completed to build, for this reason can still see huge blocks of stone which were left in the path to the end-point. It is also clearly. Also it is clear that the main temple was not completed in its entirety before being destroyed by the Spanish
